Tsalapatis Winery is located just outside Polemi village in the Paphos region at an altitude of 450 meters, one of Cyprus’s most important vine-growing areas. Founded and run by owner Andreas Tsalapatis (also known as Andreas Chrysostomou), the winery has been producing wine for over 20 years and currently produces approximately 100,000 bottles annually. The winery’s vineyards are situated on hilly terrain across multiple villages including Polemi, Arodes, and Stroumpi, each contributing unique microclimates and soil characteristics that influence the final wines. The diverse soil composition of the vineyards includes limestone, black soils with heavy minerality, and red soils ideal for Shiraz production.
Tsalapatis is particularly renowned for its exceptional white wines, especially its Xynisteri and Sauvignon Blanc varieties. The winery pioneered the production of Sauvignon Blanc on Cyprus and is celebrated for its Melapsopodi Sauvignon Blanc, which features tropical fruit aromas and pairs beautifully with fish and seafood. Their signature Rigena Xynisteri is a crisp, refreshing white with floral and grassy notes, while their red selections include the Rigas blend (Mataro and Lefkada), known for its mulberry and blueberry aromas, and a robust Syrah with notes of crushed black cherries and brambleberries. The winery has received numerous awards, including a Silver Award at the 10th Cyprus Wine Competition for its Rigena Xynisteri 2016.
Visitors are welcome to tour the winery and enjoy wine tastings directly from the barrel in the wine cave. The owner, Andreas, is known for his passion and expertise, and appointments can be arranged by calling.
