Aes Ambelis winery is a modern, characterful winery set on the slopes of Kalo Chorio Orinis in the Nicosia district, about 28 km southwest of the capital. Founded in 1992 with a clear vision to craft wines of “unique character and premium quality,” it combines a striking two‑level architectural design with serious winemaking credentials. The building houses modern production facilities, an underground cellar for barrel and bottle ageing, and a bright tasting and reception hall, all surrounded by about three hectares of estate vineyards planted mainly to Maratheftiko and Shiraz, farmed with environmentally friendly practices.
In the glass, Aes Ambelis is known for a broad portfolio that runs from fresh, easy‑drinking wines to award‑winning premium bottlings. Core labels include Aes Ambelis White, Rosé and Red, alongside varietal wines such as Sauvignon Blanc, Sauvignon Blanc Fumé, Promara and Morokanella, plus reds like Aias (Cabernet Sauvignon), Ektor (Shiraz) and Omiros (Maratheftiko). The estate also produces its own Commandaria, drawing on Cyprus’s oldest wine tradition. Over the years, the winery has picked up major distinctions, including a Grand Gold for its rosé at the 1st Cypriot Wine Competition and international recognition at the Decanter World Wine Awards.
Aes Ambelis is open for visits and tastings throughout the year. Guests can book a tour that follows the journey from grape to glass, exploring the surrounding vines, the fermentation area and the barrel cellar, then settle into the tasting hall, which looks out over both the ageing cellar and the Pitsilia mountains. Tastings can be paired with artisanal cheeses and charcuterie from local producers, making this one of the most attractive country escapes close to Nicosia.
