Founded in 1990 by Theodoros Fikardos, Fikardos Winery has grown from a humble passion project into one of Cyprus’s most respected and award-winning wineries. Located in the picturesque village of Mesogi in the Paphos wine region, this family-owned establishment is renowned for its commitment to producing high-quality wines that authentically showcase Cyprus’s unique terroir. The winery operates two private vineyards in Pano Arodes and Choulou, cultivating both indigenous Cypriot grape varieties such as Maratheftiko, Xinisteri, and Gannoudi, as well as international varieties including Mataro, Shiraz, and Cabernet Sauvignon. The winery also sources grapes from trusted local vine growers in nearby villages including Tsada, Stroumpi, Polemi, Letimpou, Kathikas, and Killi, maintaining close relationships that ensure exceptional quality.
The Pano Arodes vineyard sits at an impressive altitude of 650-700 meters in an area called Furnia, facing the Troodos mountain range with limestone-rich soil and a unique microclimate ideal for cultivating Mataro and Shiraz. The Choulou vineyards, located in two sections at lower altitudes near the Ezousa River, are perfectly suited for growing the indigenous Xynisteri and Gannoudi varieties. Fikardos was notably the first winery in Cyprus to produce Spourtiko wines, a rare white wine made from an equally rare Cypriot grape variety with distinctive aromas of green apple, key lime, and grapefruit. The winery’s modern production facilities combine traditional winemaking techniques with contemporary equipment, resulting in wines that have earned numerous awards and recognition throughout the industry.
Visitors to Fikardos Winery can enjoy engaging guided tours led by knowledgeable family members, including Leonardo, who passionately share insights into the winemaking process, vineyard management, and the fascinating history behind each wine’s name. The winery offers wine tasting experiences featuring six wines from their diverse catalogue, including classic, medium sweet, premium, and experimental selections. With reasonable pricing (approximately €5 per person for tours and tastings), a welcoming atmosphere for all ages, and a well-stocked wine shop where visitors can purchase bottles directly from the source, Fikardos Winery provides an authentic and memorable introduction to Cyprus’s rich viticultural heritage.
