Nicolaides Winery is a boutique family-run winery located in the picturesque village of Anogyra in the Limassol district, situated at an altitude of 450 meters on a plateau traditionally known for its viticultural heritage. Founded in 1986 by Nicolas Nicolaides, the winery is now in its third generation of family ownership and is currently run by his grandson, Nicos, who was trained at the prestigious Montpelier school of viticulture and oenology. The winery operates on four hectares of vineyards and produces approximately 130,000 bottles annually, combining traditional winemaking techniques with modern scientific expertise.
The winery has earned a strong reputation for its diverse wine portfolio, which includes both indigenous Cypriot varieties and international grapes. Their signature wines include the award-winning Conte Nicolaides (a Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc blend aged in oak barrels), Grenache rosé, Maratheftiko, and a rich, sweet Muscat. The family Nicolaides uniquely combines the art of vinification with visual artistry, using wine labels featuring paintings by renowned artist John Corbidge, who was inspired by Cyprus during his years living on the island.
Visitors to Nicolaides Winery can enjoy wine tastings by appointment (Monday to Sunday upon request) and experience the warm hospitality of the family. The winery exports 5-10% of its production to international markets including the US, UK, and Germany, while maintaining strong local presence. The setting in Anogyra village, surrounded by traditional Cypriot culture and other local attractions like carob factories and cheese farms, makes it an ideal destination for wine enthusiasts exploring Cyprus’s wine routes.
