Pittali Winery is a family passion project founded by Fanis Pittalis in the charming mountain village of Agios Theodoros Pitsilias. What makes this winery special is its deep connection to the land and its people. Fanis originally studied Mechanical Engineering, but in 2019 something shifted. He returned to his ancestral village and discovered a forgotten legacy: the abandoned vineyards and winemaking traditions of his great-grandfather Ioannis Mpeis, who planted his first vineyard back in 1910, and his relative Antonis Ioannou, who built a family winery in the 1950s with nothing but dedication and heart. Inspired by these stories, Fanis pursued a Master’s degree in Viticulture and Enology, combining his ancestors’ passion with modern knowledge. Today, Pittali Winery stands as a tribute to the people and traditions that shaped Pitsilia. Since 2019, Fanis has been rescuing old, neglected vineyards from decline and experimenting with small-scale winemaking that honors both tradition and innovation. The Omodos Wine Press, also known as Linos tou Charilaou, is a remarkably well‑preserved medieval wine press tucked away in the cobbled streets of Omodos, a wine‑growing village in the Troodos Mountains of Cyprus. Just a short walk from the historic Timios Stavros Monastery, it occupies a small stone room that today serves as a tiny museum of traditional winemaking. Inside, visitors find vats, cauldrons, and tools that evoke centuries of rural life. According to accounts from the current owner, the site has been used for winemaking for roughly 700–800 years, making it one of the oldest surviving installations of its kind on the island. At the heart of the room is the spectacular press itself: an enormous double wooden beam that spans the space, ending in a massive wooden screw weighted by a heavy stone. In its working days, grapes were heaped into a large tray under the beam, then covered with sturdy planks. Two workers would turn the screw, raising the stone so that the beam dropped and squeezed the grapes with immense force. Constantinou Winery was founded in 1992 by Costas Constantinou, an ambitious young businessman born in Pera Pedi village, located on the outskirts of Limassol District in Cyprus. The winery initially started with the production of liqueurs, with the first product being the Orange Liqueur “Orali” made from ripe oranges, followed by the popular Coffee Liqueur. In 2000, Constantinou expanded into wine production with his first white dry wine named “Ayioklima.” The winery relocated to a modern 800 square meter facility in August 2009, equipped with state-of-the-art machinery and technology to produce wines to the highest standards of quality. Today, Constantinou Winery is a family-run operation led by owner Costas Constantinou and his son Panagiotis, an oenologist and viticulturist.
